PCERA seminar 2010 in Copenhagen

Dr. Clark developed the Parent-Child Early Relational Assessment (PCERA), an instrument for assessing the quality of affect and behaviour in parent-child interactions used in over 300 research and clinical programs internationally. Dr. Clark was a major contributor to the Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood (DC: 0-3). She is also the developer of the Mother-Infant Therapy Group Approach for Postpartum Depression (M-ITG), has written numerous articles on screening, evaluation and treatment of postpartum depression, maternal employment, and assessment of strengths and areas of concern in early parent-child relationships.

Dr. Anderson is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who received her Ph.D. from DePaul University and completed her clinical psychology internship at University of Wisconsin Hospitals, Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Anderson works with infants, toddlers and preschoolers and their families and caregivers providing preventative and early intervention services in child care and family support programs.  She also collaborates with Dr. Roseanne Clark providing training and consultation to clinicians and researchers nationally and internationally in the use of the Parent-Child Early Relational Assessment (PCERA), an instrument for assessing the quality of affect and behaviour in parent-child interactions.

In the Scandinavian countries there have been held several training seminars where a number of professionals have received education and training in using the method, some by the Swedish psychologist Pia Risholm-Mothander, others by the Finnish psychologist Sari Björklund Ahlvist.

 

Detailed programme:

Part 1. Tuesday 5th October 10.00 – 17.30 and Wednesday 6th October 9.00 – 16.00:

Two days follow up workshop in the PCERA method

Themes of the workshop: News about the method, rating difficult items,  participants’ own videotapes, conclusions of PCERA seen in relation to the PIR-GAS score in DC/DC:R 0-3 etc.

Participants: Professionals having achieved earlier basic PCERA training and rating of 15 PCERA videotapes.This workshop is part of the follow up training in the PCERA method, and the first part of trainers training.

Part 2. Thursday the 7th October 9 – 16:

Assessment of Parent-Child Interactions and the Use of the Parent-Child Early Relational Assessment

Four lectures:

  1. Theoretical Concepts and Empirical Research on the Contributions of Parent-Child Early Relational Patterns to Psychosocial and Developmental Trajectories in Infants and Young Children

  2. Understanding Relationships at Risk: The Impact of Maternal and Child Contributions to Relational Risk, Maternal depression and other psychiatric disorders, Adolescent parenting and Poverty; Infant prematurity and other medical and developmental disturbances as risk factors

  3. Objective and Subjective Assessment Approaches: The Use of Video and Engaging Parents in Exploring their Relationship with their Child

  4. Using Relational Assessment with families in the collaborative formulation of treatment goals and evaluation of progress over time

Participants:  Professionals working with children and families.

For participants having learnt the PCERA method this course will be part of the follow-up training.
